Dedicated to the memory of Derek Lee

This site is a tribute to Derek. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

Derek Lee, born in Bulwell, Nottingham Nov 1937. The middle child of three siblings.

Started work at Babbington Colliery at the age of 15 until the colliery closed and he was made redundant, 33 years later. After a further five years working at various other local pits he decided to hang up his helmet and retire.

Derek passed away aged 86 after a stoke. Until this, he lived alone independently, took no medication, used any walking aids and had all his marbles, as he would say!

The stroke took his speech and independence and he passed a few months later.

Dad was older, but on the same ward, there were people in their early 30’s, 40’s, 50’s who needed a lot of intense therapy, and aftercare to rebuild  their lives … hopefully you can spare a donation to The Stroke Association so they can provide specialist support, fund critical research and campaign to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support to rebuild their lives …

Thank you on behalf of our Dad, Debbie & Martin
